Most customers choose our Heavy Duty 4″–2″ taper for built-in spas, with Super Foam 5″–3″ available for maximum strength and insulation.
Based on our experience with spa covers in Southern California, a typical in-ground spa cover lasts about 4 to 6 years with no special maintenance. With regular cleaning and an application of 303 Aerospace Protectant about 3 to 4 times per year, many customers can add approximately 1 to 3 years to the life of the cover.
For most in-ground spas, we recommend our Heavy Duty 2.0 lb foam because it provides greater strength and durability than standard foam. For customers who want maximum insulation and additional strength, our Super Foam 5"–3" option is the upgrade. The best choice depends on the size of the spa, climate, and how much insulation and support you need.

For built-in plaster spas (gunite), measure the full length and width of the water span and add at least 6 to 8 inches overall. This allows the finished cover to have approximately 3 to 4 inches of support on all sides when it rests on the coping, deck, or spa edge.
If the spa is free-form or has an unusual shape, a template may be required. Call us before making the template so we can help make sure it is done correctly.
Irregular, free-form, or unusual in-ground spas require a template. The template allows us to reproduce the exact shape of the spa so the finished cover fits properly and has the support it needs around the perimeter.
A 3 mil clear painter’s drop cloth is required for the template. We do not accept templates made from other materials such as 1 mil plastic, construction paper, cardboard, or similar materials.

No. Spa covers are not designed to be walked or stood on.
Our spa covers up to 96 inches with four locking tie-down straps are designed to meet ASTM F1346 safety-cover requirements. These requirements are intended to help prevent children under five years of age from gaining access to the water. For spas up to 96 inches, ASTM F1346 also requires the cover to withstand a 275 lb static-load test.
This added strength provides important protection if a young child accidentally gets onto the cover, but the cover should never be treated as a walking surface or used for play.
